RewriteKey

Privacy policy

Effective date: October 11, 2026

RewriteKey is a Windows app by Yashwant Batham that fixes and rewrites text you select. This policy explains what data the app handles.

1. Text you rewrite

When you press a RewriteKey shortcut, the text you selected is sent to Google's Gemini API, using your own Gemini API key, so it can be corrected, rewritten, or translated. RewriteKey does not store, log, or share this text with anyone else. Google processes it under Google's own terms and privacy policy. On Google's free tier, Google may use submitted content to improve its products, so avoid rewriting highly sensitive information.

2. Your Gemini API key

Your API key is stored encrypted on your own computer. It is only sent to Google, together with your rewrite requests. We never receive it.

3. Clipboard

RewriteKey briefly uses the Windows clipboard to copy your selected text and paste the result. It restores your original clipboard afterwards and does not keep a history.

4. Pro license

If you activate RewriteKey Pro, your license key is sent to Gumroad to verify your purchase, when you activate and occasionally afterwards. Your purchase details are handled by Gumroad under Gumroad's privacy policy.

5. What we don't do

RewriteKey has no user accounts, no ads, no analytics, and no tracking. We do not collect, sell, or share your personal information.

6. Children

RewriteKey is not directed at children under 13.

7. Changes

If this policy changes, the updated version will be published on this page with a new effective date.
